My Reactions to Reactions
1.What will RGV’s epitaph say?
Ans: Somewhere between “Not a very nice guy” and “Not a very bad guy”.
2. How do you manage to patao women inspite of your craziness?
Ans: Because they are crazier. Ahhhh! I want to make love to God for creating women.
3. My girl friend is blushing seeing your pics.
Ans: Arun, I think I am beginning to fall in love with your girl.
4. Birds and animals get born, reproduce and die. Humans get born, study, do a job, get married, reproduce, take care of their children and die. Except for a few who stand alone and create.
Ans: You reminded me of a beautiful scene from Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged”.
When Dagny Taggart is upset about an idiotic bunch of board of directors interfering in the construction of the John Galt line, Franscisco ‘d’anconia takes her to the window points out to the New York skyline and say, “Men such as on your board could not have created that. The fact that the skyline exists is proof enough that the world runs on the intellectual strength of creators and visionaries and not due to second handers like your board of directors.”
5. Do you remember your first crush? If so who is that?
Ans: My English teacher at St.Mary’s High School. Ahhhhh! I never ever heard her lectures man.
6. One who believes in God never believes in mankind.
Ans: Well said.
7. Instead of giving simple answers, why do you Phoonk some of the comments?
Ans: Because I am kind of Phoonked in the head.
8. I think Rakta Charitra will be a cult classic.
Ans: Yes, it will be and save this text and mail it back to me if the film is otherwise.
9. Is there a possibility of me being a silent observer on the sets of Rakta Charitra?
Ans: Yes, will let you know when and where I will start shooting.
10. Why do you use smoke in many scenes?
Ans: Mostly to cover up bad art direction.
11. I am the one who mostly abused you in the past and I might still do that in future.
Ans: I am touched with and I mean it.
12. In Sarkar Raj when Shanker admits to Anita about killing his brother, there is strange camera movement.
Ans: That’s a trolley forward zoom back shot which was first used to maximum effect by Steven Spielberg in jaws to capture Roy Scheider’s reaction on the beach when he looks at the boy on the raft being attacked by the shark.
When the camera is on a zoom lens and on a trolley as it tracks forward to the actor if you keep zooming out the contradictory movement creates a strange visual effect which can work very well in certain situations.
13. Did you ever after completing the film regret the way you captured a scene?
Ans: Many many times.
14. 15 years back you said that watching your name adjacent to Illayaraja’s names on the poster was the most memorable moment of your life. Do you still feel that or did it fade out with your success?
Ans: It still is because that’s the only time I felt successful, as that visual in my own mind transited me from a nobody into a somebody. And also once success comes you take it for granted and as a result of that you no longer feel successful. The irony is that now I don’t think much of Illayaraja, but the memory of that moment will be with me forever.
15. Do you give importance to story boarding?
Ans: No, because I do my shot division largely based on the actors performances and you can’t plan that as you will only know it only on location.
16. What is the qualification to be an assistant director?
Ans: You have to understand that in today’s times there is not really any connection between the terms director and assistant director. Because of the word director it creates an illusion that the assistant is training to be a director. The truth is that anybody from an art director to a DOP to a man on the road etc can aspire to be a director on the strength of their imagination and passion whereas to be an assistant director you need more specific training mainly due to the complexities of film technology and production hassles which built up over the years.
In other words what an assistant director needs to know to be a director can be learnt be in one day but to only be an assistant director you have to spend far much more time and have far more training.
17. Is it necessary for a director to have exposure to world cinema?
Ans: Any amount of exposure to whatever helps subject to a judicious use of your time and energy. Having said that I also believe that you can make a great film without any exposure at all. That’s because your film eventually is nothing but your way of telling a story the way you feel it.
18. Birds make a nest. Humans make a house. Thousands of years later, bird still makes a nest. Humans make Bandra-Worli sea-link.
Ans: Fantastic.
19. Most people choose just to ‘be’ rather than to ‘become’.
Ans: Superb.
20. Is Jiah’s character in Nishabd your alter ego which seems to have reflected in her poem?
Ans: That’s a very interesting observation. I never thought of it that way but the fact that I okayed the poem means that it was somewhere in my subconscious. On location I was too busy looking at her legs to be conscious of anything else.
21. Why have you not made any movies on Howard Roark?
Ans: Because Raork is a mind thing and it will be impossible for any actor to portray him or for any director to capture him. For all the influence Roark had on us, if we see him in person we will have problems even with simple things like how he will sit, stand or walk.
22. What is your opinion on Mega Star Chiranjeevi?
Ans: None.
23. Can I know what made you visit Vizag?
Ans: For some film promotion work. I am coming again for Nitin’s Agyaat.
24. I haven’t heard a dishum sound of fighting as realistic as in Shiva.
Ans: It’s not the dishum sound alone. It’s the combination of the realism in the actor’s performance and the atmosphere around which makes the dishum sound realistic. The same sound if you put in a run of the mill action film it will sound as tacky.
25. If you lifted the cycle chase from ‘Arjun’ then didn’t Rahul Rawail use the steadicam first?
Ans: Dumbo. I lifted the idea not the equipment. Also there are no point of view shots of chasing in Arjun.
26. Isn’t there a steadicam in Masoom?
Ans: That’s a hand held shot and the jerky movement makes that very obvious. Also there was no steadicam available in India at that time.
Incidentally for those interested the steadicam caught Hollywood attention first in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Shining’ and got popularized with Stallone’s ‘Rocky’.
There’s a very interesting story on how steadicam was invented. When Garrett Brown the inventor of the steadicam was jogging one early morning a thought suddenly occurred to him on how come the visual does not shake or jerk when he is running the way it does when you are holding a camera to your eye and doing the same. Then it occurred to him that it’s not so much as the body which causes the jerk but it is due to the cameraman trying to constantly adjust the eyepiece to the eye as he is running. So he thought of a way to avoid the eyepiece and use a monitor instead and place the camera on a hydraulic head, strap it to the body and bingo the steadicam got invented.
27. Is it true that you were a boring serious philosophy reading intellectual guy?
Ans: Yes I was until my success made the same me sound like an interesting thought provoking philosopher tuned maverick filmmaker.
Just want to show a song I shot for AGYAAT. This comes right in the beginning part of the film as a part of establishing of inter-relationships.

Shitty comments for Shitty questions !!!!
RGV,
The trolley forward zoom back shot was used in Sarkar 1 as well, where Shankar tells Katrina about his father at bandra reclamation.
P.S:I hate you for loving my babe, and love her for her choice of men. ;)
RGV,
I always thought Abhishek Bachchan would make a wonderful Roark. But you made a Keating out of him in Naach. Well. Your movie, your wish.
Ramu,
Not so good picturisation of the song.
For your talent, it should have been better.
Hi Ramu,
Many of the characters in your movies demand a high degree of spontaneity from the actors. How will you manage it? Since, this quality cannot be taught by anyone nor learnt from an institution. And, most of the times you are successful in bringing it out from your characters.
For example, In the telugu movie “SHIVA”, the scene where Mr.Tanikella Bharani informs Mr. Raghuvaran, that the person is Siva, (When Nagarjuna came to Raghuvaran’s home to issue a warning), Bharani garu’s carried a great emotion in uttering a single word “Siva”.. The scene is a fanastic one and it is a maginifcient display of your directorial capabilties.
( The same scene can carry nearly a page- dialogue, describing about Siva, but you managed it with a single word…. Hats off Ramu!!!)
Nana Patekar(age may matter) or Manoj Bajpayi can be Howard Roark
Do you think an ‘ideal’ film maker should compose background score for his movie on his own, as then the movie would be completely based on his imagination with no creative inputs from others. This way, the movie would completely be the director’s brainchild and he will be the sole responsible for the outcome.Vishal Bhardwaj could be cited as an example. He makes wonderful movies and composes his own music.
“The Dark Knight” the best film i have ever seen what about u?
Dance is same like telugu songs, except cinematography
Song looks good..
Who’s the choreographer?
Sir
If you are coming to hyd next time pls tell me…want to have glimpse of you and talk to you ..pls.
did u shoot this song?
Nithin is looking better than in telugu……
Hi Ramu,
I dont know you read all comments written here or not. I dont know whether you write mine or not. I tried to rewrite the screenplay of YOUR SHIVA movie.
I want to share with you. May I?
Please leave a reply.

this type of shot was first used by Alfread Hitchcock in his film ‘VERTIGO’……after that this shot was so famous and named HITCHCOCK ZOOM.
Ramu sir did u experiment any kind of camera shots like this in any of ur movies if so whats ur favourite shot?
do u get offended if someone critices u very badly
@QUEST 26
RGV
U said that.. steadicam caught Hollywood attention first in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Shining’ and got popularized with Stallone’s ‘Rocky’……… But SHINING released IN 1980 AND ROCKY released in1976……I think u just confused r…….
first music string of the song is looks like stolen from Sandeep Chawta’s Album was ‘associated with Alisha chinoy…
‘Ee kulasala gulabi reku vichinidi’ song was better than this
when you really get to know god and has strong belief in god you can see god in every living thing you will believe in everything.
Hello Ramu,
The Zoom effect you are taking about was first used by Alfred Hitchcock in the movie ‘Vertigo’. It is also referred to as the Hitchcock zoom. Correct me if I am wrong.
not only living thing every thing which is present and which is not present you can feel god in everything and everyone
Now you have no more Music sense/// You have lost it back…..
Regarding ur agyaat song…at some parts why u used black&white kind of effect……is there any underlying meaning… r u just used for an effect……anyway song is simply good&rocking……
Thousands of years later, bird still makes a nest. Humans make Bandra-Worli sea-link.
“at the same time bird(s) don’t cons to blast other birds nest to prove it has got better feather colour”
Love Fails when you love your love for a person more than the person. — Krishna Raj
we heard from Tanikella Bharani Garu that these two lines for BRAHMANANDAM in the song ‘VAAH RE VA EMI FACE UU’ were sung by YOU…i played it a lot of times after i heard this and it is EVEN MORE FUNNIER NOW…IS THIS TRUE…
‘BAAGUNDI KAANI PLAANU, PALTI KOTTINDO EMI KAAANU’
forgettable music
forgettable choreography
forgettable acting
forgettable lyrics
forgettable location
forgettable costumes
tell me one thing in this song.. which says.. “WOW!!!” ????
I want to meet you personelly
Ramu i want to meet you personally
RGV,
Honest confession.
Royally awful and cheap video + song.
Nothing new in the video, usual wannabe-ish style and music.
Just the way you like to have some standard in your movie direction, why dont you incorporate that in your music and related aspects (video, style, performers’ attitude) as well ?
In one word – Crappy !
RGV,
I think the song is decent enough and the picturization is apt enough. I am basically more honed into how good a movie or how gripping this would be , rather than get enticed by a song. while I am sure you shot this more for publicity purposes than anything else. anyways, I think raat, and bhoot were both good efforts and I actually like phoonk too and like you, I am horror/thriller movie buff, so looking fwd to this one and hope that this has, whatever I am looking for.
when is agyaat coming out? and also when is RANN coming?
-bipin
I advise you to watch the movie called, The Suit (Russian). I think it might inspire you make a movie on the same lines :-)
pls digest that these type of songs and scrap are not ur cup of tea!! When we see ramu’s any creation ( take it even a single frame ) we expect that it should be at its best…. Yeh Gaana & Bajana….Do we need them still in our movies !!
Very few of our directors have that satta to take indian movies to next level and u are one among them ! And dont tel me me that u dnt knw it or u dnt accept it !! ” With great power comes great responsibility ” Sirji.
ADB!!!
I read somewhere that you’ve remixed Ilayaraja’s “Subhalekha raasukunna” for Agyaat. True?
BTW, that thing in that youtube link.. sucks… big time. There were times when i used to look fwd to your song picturization. (read.. your first few films). You’ve showed a glimpse of that spark in “Badli ye hawa” (Shiva 2006). But that’s about it.
FInally, got a chance to watch your “W/O V Varaprasad”. Seems like RGV style dominated Vamsy’s style, in an otherwise decent movie.
Does the fun in watching a movie fade along with time? I saw Shiva recently and it still appealed to me. Then I saw Amithab’s Don and it looked stupid. Then I saw Dr.No (james bond movie) it looked lousy. Then I saw Chiranjeevi’s ‘Challenge’ and fount it engaging. Forrest Gump still looks excellent. Trying to figure the difference between a memorable film, hit film and an everlasting film…
Second question… Nagarjuna’s action… if you watch any of his movies, its very clear that he is not a good actor. See the movie Santosham and the scene where he cries is just terrible. How is it that he acts ok in your films. He suddenly starts looking like a normal actor although he acts stupidly otherwise. and hey… another impact of shiva, I became a fan of Nagarjuna after seeing Shiva… what a tragedy….
Third question: are you coming to the US? If yes, I would like to stop by and say hi..
wha ?
luv her thighs ! , i lik d way u focussed coupla times on nisha’s legs :D
i neva saw heroes dancin in ur flicks offlate, n nitinz dancin ( he jus aped al those cliched telugu moves)
hope fuckin lawrence did not choreograph dis one !!!!! :P
hope f***ing lawrence din choreograph dis song :d !!!
btw, luv nisha’s thighs *me droolin* aahhhh !
“Incidentally for those interested the steadicam caught Hollywood attention first in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Shining’ and got popularized with Stallone’s ‘Rocky’. ”
Rocky was released in 1976
and Shining was released in 1980.
So technically steadicam first was used in Rocky, correct me if I am wrong.
“When the camera is on a zoom lens and on a trolley as it tracks forward to the actor if you keep zooming out the contradictory movement creates a strange visual effect which can work very well in certain situations.”
the effect in the visual of bhooth when Ajay D started to believe there is some thing abnormal happening in his flat. I discussed the same with my friend after watching the movie, not even a dialogue said by Ajay D but content of the scene was conveyed to audience. The effect was awesome. Can you share your thoughts on this.
WTF is this?
tacky and crass
i suggest if you want anybody to go watch this film do not release any more promos
this style of picturization went out in the mid nineties. Your projection of sexuality seems to be stuck in a time warp
Nisha/ Priyanka Kothari-puhlease. Give us a break.
I suggest you make videos/sms clips of her strictly for your personal use which you can watch in private.
The public is just not interested. Your taste in women is going from bad to worse
the actor is allright. Song sucks. You should shoot your lyricist dead for this junk
A movie is not a mind thing. It is our eye and ear thing to others’ mind thing.
Let us say I want to make a movie about Buddha.
I cannot make a movie as to what Buddha went thru in his mind from the beginning till end.
Yes. Interesting things might have happened in his mind.
Yes. He might have discovered the secrets of life and death.
Yes. The process thru which he might have gone thru might also be interesting.
However, in all probability, it will not make for an interesting movie.
What might make the movie interesting is some audio-visuals of:
- what we he did or said
- where he went
- who he spoke to
- reactions of people who he came across in his life
- what others tell some others about him
- What others do because of him
- what others do to others because of him
- how he lived
- how he died
- a very miniscule excerpts of what he thought
Some nice movies on mind thing:
Goodwill Hunting (*ing Matt Damon, by Gus Van Sant),
Assassination of Richard Nixon (*ing Sean Penn, by Niels Mueller)
the song is good , the video too………………..but y do i see a different RGV?…………where is the RGV who used to avoid the interference of a song, breaking the rhythm of the story?
i watched DAUD again today……this is some Nth time i watched it………loved the top angle shot where bhavani runs back , pics up nandu’s fallen cap n puts it on his head……….i think u added it on location, can u recall how did it strike u?
i think after SAFARI…..DAUD was a true indian adventure cum commedy film.dayashankar,umaparvati,chaco…….all unforgetable characters!!!!!
by the way…..THANKS!!!…..for answerin two of my questions.
Hello Varma garu,
“For all the influence Roark had on us, if we see him in person we will have problems even with simple things like how he will sit, stand or walk.”
Show that in a movie, and you might have a movie on Howard Roark.
did someone tell u before that your voice is so sexy??
Another scene from Bhooth where the kid standing on the stair case while Rekha is coming to see Urmila for the first time, kid is standing on the stairs and Rekha could pass him as if none exists. How did you manage to take that scene, when I thought about it i could figure out three ways
1) Double laying or what ever they call it. The way regular ‘double action’ scene is carried, first picturising same shot with kid standing on the stairs and second, rekha climbing the stairs and mounting the scene on one another.
2) Computer Graphics where the kid is shot on blue mat or some thing and replacing him there in actual Rekha shot using CG but i strongly felt you used the third, can you please confirm this
3) Kid is standing on the staircase and when Rekha is taking the stairs to first floor and exactlt at the point when she covers the camera view on kid, shegives a small pause by then somebody pulled him out of the way from the secret door on the wall who is standing behind the wall. By this Rekha pausing for a sec gives the effect to audience that she observed some thing at that place and gives time to pull the child from the way. I see this economical and easy yet most effective with out loosing the reel quality. I hope you took the shot sameway. can you please give me the directors view and insight on this.
You definitely did not extract best from Nithin in the song… his expressions seem to be imperfect… looks like a regular song from stereotypic telugu movie besides ur obvious technical values…
Zulphein slick and shine!
Palkein liking fine!
Baby why you shine!
Baby dont be shy honey its your time!!!!!!
Zara see you mine!
Give me just one time!
for you my heart is dying!!!!
I want to kiss you day and night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OOOOOHHHH MMMYYYYYY GOOOOOODDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to hear it over and over again because i thought i was hearing wrong. I’m still hoping you clarify the words and that i have misunderstood them
Because like you say about the Nishabd poem, if you passed it because it was in your subconscious mind-I’m tooooooooo sad to know that these above lyrics emerged from your subconscious mind too :-((((((((((((((((
Maybe you should change the title Agyaat to “RGV ki maut”
‘MULHOLLAND DRIVE’ one of the finest works of DAVID LYNCH.His extraordinary visualization, unconventional narrative techniques made this film a MASTERPIECE.Due to unconventional narrative techniques and complexity followed in screenplay made somany top critics didnt understood the whole concept clearly..but they accepted this film as a masterpiece..as the film truely conveys its high imaginative vision, visualization, creativity…etc
My question is..What is ur opinion on David lynch films and mainly abt MULHOLLAND DR.
Another thing regarding subject matter of MULHOLLAND DR certainly Lynch inspired from the works of SIGMUND FREUD.And what is ur opinion on FREUDS works..
..I saw Mulholland Dr for 4 times and i understood only 80%(not only me somany others even didnt reached to this %….) wht my question is…showing such high complexity in story telling….is it needed.. being a creative&intelligent filmmaker PLZ comment on it…..
The lyrics are truly filled with Lust and Passion of a Lover…and the Dialogue he says near the end ‘I Love U’ seems like Nitin is confiding his love to Priyanka…chk the lyrics out

Ramu
How was Nithin roped into this project?
Ramu
Dance steps are good in this movie.
In the movie-making business, directors want to create artistic films, regardless of costs but producers want to make financially profitable movies by minimizing costs. This results in conflict between directors and producers. In this context, which is the source of the conflict?
Where did you draw the inspiration or where did you copy raghuvaran’s character in the movie SHIVA?
In the movie shiva the same ambassador car is used for chasing nag when he is on bicycle same in gayam kota and jagapathi babu uses the same ambasador car
In the movie shiva the same ambassador car used for chasing nag when he is on bicycle and same car is used by nag again when he takes ganesh to court same in gayam kota and jagapathi babu uses the same ambasador car
Can you suggest any books on moviemaking?
You inspire and scare at the same time.
The steadicam was introduced to the industry in 1976 by inventor and cameraman Garrett Brown, who originally named the invention the “Brown Stabilizer”. After completing the first working prototype, Brown shot a 10-minute demo reel of the revolutionary moves this new device could produce. This reel was seen by numerous directors, including Stanley Kubrick and John Avildsen. The Steadicam was first used in the biopic Bound for Glory, but its breakthrough movies are considered to be Avildsen’s Rocky in 1976, and Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining.
Please talk about your interaction with ILAYARAJA/R.D.BURMAN while recording for SHIVA and ANTHAM.
However, I do feel that you never work with music directors on “SALEABILITY” basis. Not just music directors any technician for that matter.
Case in point Himesh Reshammiya, Amar Mohile, Sandeep Chowtha (MD’s), Vijay Arora (Jungle), Rasool, Gerard Hooper (Satya), Hemant Chaturvedi (Company), W.B.Rao (Rangeela), Amit Roy (Sarkar)
Today the steadicam is a standard piece of film-making equipment, used in many productions. Notable instances of steadicam use include:
Bound for Glory (1976) was the first feature production to use the Steadicam.
Marathon Man (1976) was the first feature released with Steadicam shots (although these were shot after Bound for Glory)
Rocky (1976) used a steadicam during its training montage sequence (including the famous run up a flight of museum steps) and certain fight scenes.
Halloween (1978) – Director John Carpenter used the steadicam for the infamous opening scene of the film where Michael murders his sister along with numerous other shots during the film.
Destiny of the Daleks (1979) is credited as being one of the first British television productions to make use of the steadicam.
Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979) used a steadicam for the entire scene where Brian encounters the “ex-leper”.
The Shining (1980) includes several famous tracking shots, notably of Danny riding his tricycle through the lobby of the Overlook Hotel. This was also the first film to use a Steadicam in the improvised low mode position, with the camera nearer the ground than the counterweight.
Das Boot (1981): Filming inside the rocking submarine was done with steadicam, often with a slight fish-eye lens.
Return of the Jedi (1983) used the steadicam with two cross-mounted gyroscopes for additional stability to film the background plates for the speeder bike sequence, using a camera running at 3/4 frames per second, which was later shown at the full film rate of 24 frames per second. [3]
Come and See (1985) Much of this war movie was filmed with Steadicam.
Aliens (1986) utilized a steadicam harness to create the attachment point of the fictional M56 Smart Gun used by characters Vasquez and Drake.
Shiva (1989) was the first Indian film to use steadicam.
Russian Ark (2002) consists of one uninterrupted 90-minute steadicam shot, with the camera following the principal character as he wanders through the Hermitage, the palatial museum in Saint Petersburg.
ER (1994-2009) is notable for its use of steadicam, sometimes filming up to an act as a ‘one shot’.
Before Sunset (2004) has many steadicam shots as the characters walk through the streets of Paris, the longest of which lasts for 11 minutes.
The Protector (2005) has a steadicam fight scene that lasts nearly four minutes where the protagonist fights a large number of thugs, destroys many props, and runs up several flights of stairs. The brief use of digital effects to fix problems caused by a few props that worked incorrectly prevented the scene from being shot several times.
Atonement (2007) contains a memorable continuous five-minute steadicam shot recreating the Dunkirk evacuation during WWII. The shot used over 1000 extras and had to be completed in one day due to budget constraints. [4]
The West Wing (1999–2006) is noted for its long steadicam “Walk and Talk” sequences showing staff members walking down hallways.
Directors Martin Scorsese, Bela Tarr, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Gus Van Sant have made extensive use of the steadicam in many of their movies.
Thank you Ramu bhai for your extended answer on my “assistant director” question
Who is the editor for “SHIVA”?
saw it on a car
the word “impossible” also says “i-m-possible”
You tease us with the legs shot of the heroine, so much so it raises our expectations and hope, to be able to see more. If not, it fires our imagination!
Dear RGV
I beg you. Please please please omit this song in final editing. Sorry for bring so honest but everything related to it sucks big time.
Desperately looking forward to Rann…

¼/span>? – On the top of this page, what is that ? is that a typo or are we supposed to decrypt something out of it ?
Ramu – With the revolution in the electronic media and everday improvement in technology, where & how do you think the feature films (in India) will be after the next 10 years ?
I might be the spoil sport here, but i really liked the song. The choreography and music are great.
So when is the ’show time’
“The irony is that now I don’t think much of Illayaraja” – Can you please elaborate what do you mean. I thought you always liked his music and i even wondered why you worked with him only twice, given your penchant for background score and given the fact that he is outstanding when it comes to background score. infact, i have been waiting for a post on ilaiyaraaja, but you hardly spoke/wrote about him till today, while there was a post about a.r.rahman. doesnt ilaiyaraaja deserve few words from you?
trash song…trash video….
reading u i cud understand ur fascination for sexy legs….but nisha aint lookin even a bit sexy….watever she may do she just cant.
A track like ROZANNA and a track like KISS ME both comin from the same RGV. Its amazing.
Only Neitzsche can explain :
“Mathematics would certainly have not come into existence if one had known from the beginning that there was in nature no exactly straight line, no actual circle, no absolute magnitude”. ~ Neitzsche
i would like to knw wat was ur brief to Amitabh Bachchan for NISHABD??
Hi Raa Varma how r u??? Iam from Anantapur, Could you please inform me raa if Rakta Charitra shooting commences? I want to observe the shooting silently
which character is tough to be shown on screen? Howard Roark or John Galt?
what made you use a dumbbell as a hitting tool in sarkar ?
Wow Nitin’s dance is very good n good choreography…..but varma garu, NIsha kothari chaalaa potti pilla…(nisha kothari too short)…any way ur choice n tase….what we van say Boss….?
….what we can say Boss….?
//That’s a trolley forward zoom back shot which was first used to maximum effect by Steven Spielberg in jaws to capture Roy Scheider’s reaction on the beach when he looks at the boy on the raft being attacked by the shark.//
mmm… not really sure ramuji… i would say hitchcock’s use of that technique in “vertigo” to create the acrophobia jimmy stewart’s character suffers from was probably the first effective use of the contra zoom. of course the shot in “jaws” is also kick-ass. but i believe hitchcock pioneered it.
Hi RGV,
I had heard sometime back that you’re going to make one of the costliest movie named “One” or something, i don’t remember correctly. Was that just a rumour or you’re actually planning? And if yes, can we know little bit about the plot as from name its tough to guess anything.
Thanks,
Is the carroms scene (Avantika and Subash Nagre) in Sarkar your nod to the Hounds and Jackals scene in Ten Commandments(Neferteri and Seti) ?
RGV,
Did you ever watch Apocalypto(2006) ? It uses fear and the ’sense of fear’ as its main elements.
In Sarkar, when Amitabh tells Rashid ‘Main nahin karoonga’, Rashid does not leave but finishes his tea, touches Sarkar’s feet and then leaves. Is it to establish the arrogance of Rashid and make his character more menacing?
@sanjuayyar
it was like ” ??? ???? ??????… ?? ?? ???? ?? ???? ?????”
Man, it still remains my favorite scene from Sarkar
sorry. it looks unicode isn’t working. It goes like
“Main nahin karoonga… aur naa kisiko karne doonga”
As an audience, an arousing sensual KISS (of course of short duration) in the song (Baby I wanna kiss you day and night) would have lifted the spirit of the song on the whole.
VARMOCRAzY
DEFINITION: anything by varma/of varma/ for varma/ to varma/ from varma/against varma
Given below are some of the instances:
——————————————————————————————————————–
My grandmother, who was a cinema fanatic by the way, went to Shiva thinking that it was a devotional movie based on the Lord Shiva. She ended up watching it 5 times. (this is the best)
U r a great philosopher i have ever seen..
You inspire and scare at the same time
My girl friend is blushing seeing your pics
I am the one who mostly abused you in the past and I might still do that in future
Do u believe that I watched Shiva 4-5 times at the age of 4?
I went back to my memories. I watched this film in my childhood, when in 7th standard, one day before Mathematics Examination. I wrote the Exam calculatively perfect. I got 95% knowingly (Exit-Exam Predictions) and 100% unknowingly (the effect of the previous day).
I was so excited after watching it, I wanted to kick someone on my way back to home
RGV, Krishna Vamshi, Shiva Nageshwar Rao, Rasool Ellor, Jd Chakravatrhi, Uttej,… one single movie, 100 outcomes.
i have a great feeling towards shiva even without watching it..it is purely because of listening to my father’s views about it.
After SHIVA was released, one of my seniors and one of my classmates (my good friend even now) were also stunned by SHIVA (and Roja at that time). They are now Shekar Suri and Vijay Kurakula, the director and music directors, respectively of the movies “A film by Aravind” and “Three”.
Inshya-allah, if I direct a movie anytime in future I will DEDICATE that movie to Ramu bhai…..Ameen
After getting so many shocks in 2.5 hrs, the audience were not satisfied and watched SHIVA again and again and again and again and again AND WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH……
your mom gave work to many jobless ppl here
———————————————————————————————————————————-
and many more to come…..
what is your concept of fixing the climax of a film
Ramu, for last one and half year i was thinking to assist you, but as u told now i m very much confident to become a director. But as i live in surat and no film background here i have to be on the set of film so that i can learn atleast technical aspects. I know final and most important thing is my idea and that can not come by assisting somebody. Ramu i’ve made two short films and i m gonna take part in ‘agyaat shortfilm contest’. I want to be with u just to learn technicalities and this is the only reason of participating in that agyaat contest. By the way, u hadn’t written any thing on this contest on your blog why’s that? Plz give me chance to be with u. Thanks a lot.
ramu do u have a contigency plan while working?
Ram i have watched that video song…let me make a confession….while i am watching the video, my attention is COMPLETELY on Nitin and not Nisha…..why is it that i have become “repulsive” watching her and “enjoying” watches Nitin and his “hot” body…..aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!
PS: NO i am not what u all are thinking about me, if u dont trust me then ask my dear friend Sree Venkat….
Ramu, Now though gay sex is made legal in India, no one can intimidate us for our actions.
Yes i want to TEST Ram’s love/passion/dream/fire/zeal/enthusiasm etc for CINEMA and for that i want to kidnap him for 4-5 months and hide him somewhere…..Anyone interested in my pursuit?
Ramu, if you looked at Jiah’s legs while shooting nishabd, what are you looking at in Agyaat? Aish kar RGV, kya con hai.
no…i think kidnapping ramu is a bad idea….coz then i ll miss him on the blog and the multiplex….
RGV is Bollywood’s Tarantino, comment what’s your favorite Tarantino movie (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill?). Do you know Quentin Tarantino and you share the same sunsign? Even your video library owner background is identical and both prefer the same kind of movies to make.
What do you think of trail reviewing of movies before actual release? Hollywood directors preview movies to trial audiences and then change the climax or key scenes based on feedback, is this really useful? You mentioned regretting a scene after the movie has been done, if say every film director had the luxury to reshoot an entire film again, do you think quality of movies would be close to perfect? I guess you never can be sure of anything until the audience sees it.
@arun_an: You dumbo when intelligent people(me, sree v, arun) are talking dont u know u should come between us u wacko? Idhar baat katam hi nahi hui aur thu beech me gussrela……chal aab dhimaak mat paga…….satak idhar se….
hai ramu why did u direct prema katha
did u ggot insipired or admired the work of director vamsy(not krishna vamsy)u made w/o v.vara prasad with him
That govinda govinda background score I just love it was it ur Idea or RAJ-Koti themselves produced it?
RGV,
Did you ever find any similarities between Don Corleone and Elssworth Toohey ? They both want to keep one in their debt.
P.S : I’ve read the first 100 pages of Godfather and read The Fountainhead twice, if my question is dumb, please skip it.
RGV,
If I am not mistaken, you(or maybe more people) invented the tapori way of speaking Hindi in rangeela. Like ” Ja Raha Hai” became ” Jaarelaayae” .
How did you come up with that ?
When are you coming to Vizag again? can I meet you once?
Hey NaughtyPerson Bro
I wrote personal mails to Ramu regarding how I felt about Raathri, Antham, Govinda Govinda, Shiva 2006 and Contract
Anyways whether Ramu makes good or bad films he will always be my “film Godfather”.
I love him for shiva/rangeela/KK/company/satya and I hate him for aag/shiva 2006/contract
Raathri and Antham were good too but somehow the “Ramu effect” was missing there.
Is there any chance that I can meet you , when you visit vizag again ?
girl is sexy
song is good BUT can do much more rangeela….
Whom will you appoint, a screenwriter with goooood imaginations (uneducated) or a educated screenwriter?
What is the qualification to be a screenwriter???
In THE DEPARTED, there is lack of camera angles. What is your comment on this?
THE DEPARTED telugu version
which JD has made homam….
the last scene where jagapathi beats JD the camera angles are nice…..
the camera is the eye of the one who gets beaten ……
Drunken words by a drunken guy, but the bare facts… I’m sad that you didn’t talk about my chances as asst. at you but talked about some one else’s chances as observer.
In the video that you shared, the scene where they stretch their right leg – Timing and Synch is awesome. Overall, choreography is good.
Do you know that you and Quentin Tarantino have similar background? Video store owners turned brilliant directors without any training.
Do you consider budget while writing a script?
If u know that ur incapable of achieving something u seriously want to, which one do u go for? Be wise and leave it OR waste ur life (as others call it) trying to achieve it and failing repeatedly and taking pride in it?
There is one very obvious way to film a movie about Howard Roark. You do not show the face at all. Something like Jesus Christ’s potrayal in Ben Hur. After all, Roark is an idea, like Christ was.
If you have to put a gun to my head, and ask me to cast someone in the role of Roark, I’d probably choose Rahul Dev (the former model). He has a face that is nor normally considered handsome, but is, and looks like it was chiseled – not made of flesh and bone. The orange hair can be tricky.
In Rangeela movie the character Pakhya , who is that actor, he acted very nice in that movie, I didn;t see him any other movies of you or others,
The killings of Amod shukla (Paresh Rawal) in Satya, Khurana (Anupam Kher) in Sarkar, Shankar (Abhishek) in Sarkar Raj are common in the sense that the killer is not shown.
Where/How did you get this idea? is this your creative genius mid or copied (inspired) from some other movie?
In Antham, the killing of Mayor (Akash Khurana) is almost similar but Raghav is shown from far.
Small TYPO in Sarkar Raj
When the end titles roll, both Sayaji Shinde’s and Hassan Qazi’s names were shown as “Kaanga” as shown below. Hassan Qazi’s name was shown as Hassan Kaanga.
Karunesh Kaanga Sayashi Shindhe
Hassan Kaanga Govind Namdev
I am not sure if you know “Puri jagannath” is one of the popular Film directors in Telugu Industry. he showed us one of your picture (the ones you have uploaded recently from the movie “shiva” during the shooting in 1989) during the titles of the movie “neninthe” (raviteja starred). may be he wanted to show some respect to you as you were shown along with many other popular stars and technicians in film industry for the past 4 decades.
Your take on the actors who left you?????
“Because Raork is a mind thing and it will be impossible for any actor to portray him or for any director to capture him. For all the influence Roark had on us, if we see him in person we will have problems even with simple things like how he will sit, stand or walk.”
I completely disagree, whether it is Don Corleone or Roark they can be potrayed. They are legend and living legend also exist whose normal body language are seen as highly impressive because of their image in our mind. Like selecting Amitabh/Rajnikanth(in south) as Don Corleone helps a lot to convince audience take them as power centre in Mafia world. I personally perceived Amitabh’s body language phenomenal in SARKAR. And I said it helps, it makes director’s effort easy if you choose a living legend while playing Don Corleone but not even necessary.
E.g. Ben Kingsley even not known in India has played a Gandhi almost perfect. while for many people (including me) he is a legend. If Gandhi would have been 1000 years back I may have denied his personality as real. And its really very difficult to potray the legendry character and convince the audience that he would have walked like this, talked like this, ate like this………. But Richard Attenbourogh did it.
I absolutely disagree with you.
i think Naseeruddin shah can make a good Henry Cameron, and Anupam Kher can do a good job of being Toohey, but i simply cant think of anyone as Roark.. not even Abhishek as somebody said.. and even if someone made it,it wouldn’t get the recognition it deserves.. the audience isn’t that mature it will just go down as another concept film which failed to make a mark on the box office..its just the movies on people with flaws which can be made properly and received well.. idealist films are not like that.. any comments??
@ aswani..
I can never understand why Gandhi was and is considered such a flawless impeccable character.. could you please explain??
What is the purpose of your blog if you are so self contained and satisfied?
Is the “trolley forward, zoom back” shot the same as the “Vertigo” shot that was popularised by Hitchcock in Vertigo? It was used to great effect in “The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring” as well.
srinivasbajjuri, I’m sure Ramu knows Puri Jagganadh. If Neninthe was a hit, I think Ramu wanted to get it remade in Hindi. It was a flop, so that was the end of that.
Anji, he had a role in Satya and Sarfarosh. He died before Satya was completed, which is why you see him in parts of the movie, but not in the “Kalloo Mama” song, which had someone else in his place.
Who is the best Actor and Actress in indian cinema in your view ? Tell me the one name , off course no one 100% perfect.
One of the best movies you produced is EK HASINA THI, just want to hear few words about the movie and director sriram raghavan?
u changed my question .why r we still copying in the name of inspiration.which is your all time fav movie in telugu other than ur’s
how clapboard is used in multiple camera shot?will they clap b4 each camera???
9. Is there a possibility of me being a silent observer on the sets of Rakta Charitra?
Ans: Yes, will let you know when and where I will start shooting.
Ramu,
Thanks for the reply to my question of being OBSERVER on the sets of RAKTHA CHARITRA. I hear from a recent interview of yours that you are going to start the shoot some time in October?. As I told you I am an engineer based in San Francisco I need to work on some logistics with my employer for being able to take time off. It will be helpful if you can give me the schedule/details or people I need to be in touch at your office in India about this. You can contact me at sreedhaar@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Sreedhar Rao
your great sir
y do u always ( as far as i observed/seen in ur movies) try to capture ,elevate etc…of an emotion from a negative point of view???
