My Reactions to Reactions

1. The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits. Do you have limits?
Ans: I am off limits.

2. Are you saying that philosophy is neither wrong nor right?
Ans: I am saying that philosophy can be and should be used to mainly psyche others and sometimes yourself that even your wrong things are also right.

3. Don’t you think the world will be a dangerous place if people don’t believe in religion and run after vodka and sex?
Ans: If that’s how you feel then you should just join osho ashram and you can have all three. I for myself like to live my life dangerously.

4. Your essay on God really impressed my girl friend.
Ans: And I am impressed with your girl friend for the same.

5. Did you read Shakespeare?
Ans: Tried and got bored. I find James Hadley Chase and Fredrick Forsyth far better.

6. You are just a snake without fangs and poison but you pretend to be venomous.
Ans: Ha Ha… I really don’t know if that is meant to be a compliment or not but I must say it’s pretty much true.

7. While making “Rakta Charitra” you should bear in mind Nietzsche’s line “He who fights monsters must take care lest he becomes a monster himself”.
Ans: I am already a monster and I love monsters and hence won’t be fighting monsters.

8. Your opening statement in the article on “Rakta Charitra” is soundly illogical.
Ans: Did you consider the possibility that you could be unsoundly logical?

9. Are you a good human being?
Ans: Ha Ha Ha Ha he he he ho ho ho ho…

10. I see contradictions in you.
Ans: Oh boy! Somebody had woken up here. Ek coffee laana please!

11. Just talk about movies without preambles on philosophy.
Ans: Okey dokey Neo and you too do a favour on me and others here and don’t subject us to your diamondistic preambles on my philosophies and also give yourself some golden thoughts on why you are wasting your time here.

12. RGV = where intelligence meets immaturity
Ans: Most of you = where immaturity rejects intelligence.

13. A Peter Keating cannot do a film like “Rakta Charitra”.
Ans: True Vaishak, but believe me that one needs quite a few of Peter Keatings and Ellsworth Tooheys to make a “Rakta Charitra” or for that matter any other film.

14. Aftermath “SHIVA” you are just a useless director. Bye.
Ans: Bye.

15. I don’t know about the names given by Vaishak, but the names of directors I gave were created by me just for effect.
Ans: Cheers jaani, I loved your answers to Vaishak. I feel like buying you a taxi.

16. Do you read all comments?
Ans: I do but if the first 2 or 3 lines don’t hold me or if I already get the direction in which it’s going I skip them.

(Are Neo and Vaishak reading)

P.S: (1). “I say in one sentence what others say and do not say in whole books” – Friedrich Nietzsche (Ecce Homo)

“I say in one reaction what most of you commentators try to say and cannot say in your lifetimes” – RGV (blog)

P.S: (2). Well, I never said I am not an egocentric son of a bitch.

17. Had Fountainhead not existed on earth, would you have existed the way you are now?
Ans: That’s a pretty amazing observation. I might have but it would have taken a much longer time. It’s like you have to start from inventing the wheel whereas having Fountainhead to read is like in one day of reading you can get the entire lifetime of Ayn Rand’s thinking not to mention the entire lifetimes of the various thinkers Ayn Rand read.

18. Will you want to experience the fear and panic of the people if the world is going to end even at the cost of you yourself perishing?
Ans: I would rather imagine.

19. My greatest fear is that one day you will find blogging boring because of some of its followers and shut shop.
Ans: My fear too.

20. Can you say more about why film is an art? And what does a director exactly do in it?
Ans: To start with a film is nothing but a medium which amalgamates various art forms into a coherent whole through one person’s consciousness which is the director. By this entire process he intends to create an emotional impact on the viewer. The director is also the link between the performing arts such as actors and the primary arts such as music etc.

The various actors and technicians are nothing but a means to an end for the director which only he can visualize. So inspite of him by definition not being a primary artist himself he is channelizing them into a certain very specific direction and that’s why rightfully he is called a director.

To be able to do this, if not a complete understanding of all arts, the least he should possess is a clarity in his head about why he likes or dislikes a certain art form and this in turn would trigger his creativity.

A badly directed film would just make the actors and technicians go through an exhibition of their individual arts with intentions originated by they themselves without the directors intensity singularly backing them towards one specific direction which would understandingly result in a hotchpotch clashing of their individual intentions and will infect the film with a terrible disease called “multiplicity of objectives”.

Ram, Thanks for being what ‘YOU ARE’. I asked above question coz 2 or 3 weeks back there was a article on you in sunday magazine of telugu daily SAKSHI(i’m sure..u never red it). One of your fans working in sakshi written it with much passion. My father red it and asked about Fountianhead. I introduced to him The Fountianhead. The he said ‘Coz of that book, this fellow is quite different from others’. Though it sounded like a compliment to Ayn Rand, Still I could not agree with him. I was telling him….though we would have missed a cornerstone in a construction called RAMU, had FH not been there…surely we would have witnessed a construction of unique of its kind on the base of the spirit which Ayn Rand portrayed in FH.

  17. Dont you think that the subject matter of the film should warrant making it into a feature film? After all a director can get too excited by a subject (because of personal reasons), without realizing that it just doesnt have the meat to be made into a film!

Ans: I am already a monster and I love monsters and hence won’t be fighting monsters

Thank You Ramu bhai for answering this question. However, my intention was to mention that this line of Nietzsche would have suited to “Rakta Charitra” as it suited “Ab tak Chappan”

The basis for my support to the Nietzsche’s statemnt to RC::
Ravi was fighting against monsters who did injustice to him during his early days and later he became monster by killing so many of his opponents. Likewise, Suri was fighting the moster Ravi and in the process he monsterously killed so many people including Ravi.

  20. I observed you using the phrase ‘means to an end’ many times. Is it taken from The fountainhead ?

    Ramu Garu,

Even after the little knowledge I possess as your blog reader for quite a long time, that any silly advice we putforth you will reach a deaf ear and also with the consolation prize of you mocking back at us, I urge you to write a piece on CASTE.

Being in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh & India I literally faced a lot of problems regarding this issue, there were a lot of times when I thought ‘Things would have favoured me here if I was born in ‘that’ caste. I know that it is a stupid statement to make, but in reality it is absurdly true.

Now that a lot people who just know Ram Gopal Varma as a very popular director who is directing the story of a leader belonging to their caste, it is pretty obvious and it is a naked truth(even if you deny it) they are visiting your blog, and eagerly waiting for the movie and all that crap is gonna continue.

Every scene of this movie is going to be dissected with reference to caste and to whom you have favored. We all want those CRAZY BASTERDS to know what exactly caste means to you, What kind of a crap it is and what s*itholes they have been living since years.

Ram gopal varma is defiant by nature,a power maniac .That is the reason he gets fascinated with the likes of bal thackery, paritala ravi,ah?

Why is that society as a whole is hesitant to accept the reality?

If u are basically anti social by nature ,how on earth does it make sense on the part of media analysts to expect u be reposnsible towards society? Social responsibility is a by product of years of social programming/teachings etc where Man has to strive for the progress of society,ah?.U often get this question from the socail activits as to why u dont feel social responsibility as a film maker? My guess is U dont accept anything that is imposed and only thing that is good according to you is every thing that makes u happy/gives u pleasure and bad is some thing that thwarts you from doing what u intend to do.But the media-wallas OR so called anylysts assume that what ever benefits the sociey is good and dents it is bad which make them expect a movie on BHAGAT SINGH OR SITARARAJU from RGV with out they understanding what good/bad according to RGV is?

I wish satyendra would come from no where, posts a few lines here proving every thing that u have bragged about so far is utter non-sense.Varma on a serious note,do you think SATYENDRA is capable of doing that no matter even if RGV is what he is today with the heck of the intellect he has?

Haha.. I knew something similar was going to come. I still think, you could have been more witty by your own standards.

I could only imagine how this conversation would go, if both of us wanted to continue.

Me : C’mon man. I was trying to make a valid point and you are so insulting.
You: Stop being a cry baby and go get a life.
Me : I’m not a cry baby and I already have a life filled with vodka and sex. Now, Can we be friends?

From here it could take two directions, One if you are in a good mood (which is ofcourse a rarity, and I wouldn’t bet my life on that) and dont want to piss me off, two if you are just being yourself and want to give some fun to your audience, much at the expense of this poor man’s pride.

You could be : Sorry, my pathetic friend. There are zillions of nerds drinking vodka having sex .. doesn’t mean I could be friends with all of them. You should seriously consider the possiblity of being retarded.

    or

You could be : Looks like my gyan reached atleast one.. bravo !! (myself).. Yeah.. friends!! :-)

Is there any other way this could go?

Finally, let me guess the answer to this post..

If you truly let go of conditioning, there is no east, there is no west, there is no country, there is no objectivism – only you and a body of knowledge, that you can use any which way you want to make something out of it to kill: boredom. The more you kill boredom – the more you need to kill it next time it comes – till we reach a point where all perversions cant kill it anymore and we give up in despair calling it old age, and we are ready to die.

You add all meaning to your life. That is all there is to it.

  86. The leap always happens after an inspiration, no knowledge will help you make it, it will take nothing less than your total attention. With every leap you HAVE to jump higher or deeper, whichever covers the most distance to sustain the total attention.

The consequence of failing to re-capture “total attention” is boredom, our deepest fear. Achievement cannot be absolute, it can never be complete – unless you are dead.

  98. Hey Ramu…………..

Never ever think of shutting down this blog……… do u know what happens to most of the guys here including me….

what happens if a drug addict couldn’t find the drug suddenly……..

what if a chain smoker couldn’t find a cigarette anywhere in this world suddenly ..

what happens to an alcoholic if the Govt suddenly banned liquor in the country suddenly………….

wht happens to RGV if suddenly women and vodka disappears from this world suddenly

the same thing will happen to us

guys here gets Madly mad………. and might do anything anti social………. so the Govt will immediately take you in to the custody and force you to write something for the welfare of thousands of guys ….. at least till we get healed in some rehabilitation centers ( probably by joining Osho ashram… doing Yoga… or even by keeping ourselves in COMA with some legal drugs)

i think u got the point………. be careful and don’t allow the Govt nationalize your blog….

  101. I have recently shifted to Auckland, Newzealand. The other day I was going through e-paper of Hindustan Times and came to know that you are not in a position to make another sequel of Sarkar Raj as you are not finding a good plot/story to make another sequel.
Well, Sir, I have a story/plot which I am pretty sure you would like.
May I request you to kindly send me an e-mail at my mailing ID rajansood@mail.com indicating your personal mailing ID so that the story/plot does not become publically known to everyone.
Therefore, I request you to kindly send me your personal mailing ID and I will forward the story/plot to you.
Thank you indeed for your time and looking forward to receiving an early reply.
    With kind regards,

I knew that jaani will hit the cord by that one sentence because it is veru much like you. Jaani have other elements of you too. He use to write like the whole history of how he gone to watch a movie. Just like “I ride in a cycle to “…” theater to watch “Drohkaal” in 1992..” something like that. I think he is bit inspired from you. I too agree that he can held the audience in the first paragraph which i couldn’t do because of my straight-forward ,right to face, analytical style of writing which can be very boring and dry at times.[most of times].

But you know something, i didn’t read you essay on “GOD” for the same reason. It was dry [ as satya had found it]. I read “The Tree on the Hill” once again instead of reading your essay.

and please don’t compare Neo’s posts with mine. I have never given you stupid advices and i only reacted whenever you say some distorted fact such as “West is superior than east”. I observed you are hiding some facts which you didn’t want to project and projecting every facts which you like to project, with double strong treatment. I simply asked you some questions and I understood that you don’t have much points to defend or you are too busy to make some counter points to attack the points of an ordinary blogger.

But i noticed that you like ‘pampering’ a little, like everybody. Jaani had made big blunders like “YUVa’ style is taken from “Pulp fiction” and “Dalapati’s story is old and lifted from Mahabharatha. My points about the films i mentioned was accurate and right to the point. You are the same ramu who said in an interview that you never remember the story of film. Stories never matter in films but only the treatment. You are congratulating Jaani just because he defended you. Okay….

  121. do you retrospect your films after their release? like seeing them again and again and analyzing them? if so, when u do dat, do u laugh at urself or feel proud? :P

  122. Again, if so, for which films ,did you ‘laugh at urself’? for whic films you felt proud? :D

  123. Mr. Ramu can you stop patronising some idiots on this blog lest they might think they are the center of this universe and save some blog space for other important comments. I find it strange that some idiots have taken the liberty to perpetuate their stupidities and are believing that they are some people from above…bloggers stop this nonsense..ask a question and fukk off!! No need to give gyaan sessions here, no need to give your long long long long long long explanations about things, make it crisp and to the point, write some intelligent stuff, no need to impress anyone, if you are still feeling to impress that means you are suffering from massive levels of inferiority complex. 146. @ Vaishak saab

Good to see you back in here.

    >>>I knew that jaani will hit the cord by that one sentence because it is veru much like you.
I hit the floor when I fell down from bed in excitement. after seeing your comment I am now feeling like hitting my head. Cool Down Vaishaak…..I will never ever be able reach your philosophical depths.

    >>>Jaani have other elements of you too. He use to write like the whole history of how he gone to watch a movie. Just like “I ride in a cycle to “…” theater to watch “Drohkaal” in 1992..” something like that. I think he is bit inspired from you.
The day I saw SHIVA on October 5th 1989, I got inspired from RGV. Long ago I wrote a long essay on my experience with first day 6.00 show and how I walked back home after I watching SHIVA in “Anjali Talkies”, Secunderabad. Not only me who got inspired from RGV. There are are a string of directors currently in Tollywood who are inspired from RGV. I am just nowhere and surviving just with an auto. nevertheless, I agree I got inspired rom RGV.

Moreover, there are many people here show shared similar experience either SHIVA or ANTHAM or RAATHRI etc……whats wrong in sharing the experience. I remember many more movies on how I went to theatre etc etc . Example : I watched “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in Sterling 35 mm at 1.45 show and immediately went to the theatre next to it (Skyline 70mm) to watch one adult movie “Diamonds of Killimanjaro” and by that I time spent all the 5.00 rupees I had and WALKED home from Basheer Bagh to Secunderabad.

Now did I ever gave the above example before. I gave the example of DROHKAAL on just to signify that how much I like Govind Nihalani.

    >>>I too agree that he can held the audience in the first paragraph which i couldn’t do because of my straight-forward ,right to face, analytical style of writing which can be very boring and dry at times.[most of times].

This is very good compliement to me but I will never ever reach your philosiphical insights. I am learning so many things from everyone here including you.

    >>>But you know something, i didn’t read you essay on “GOD” for the same reason. It was dry [ as satya had found it]. I read “The Tree on the Hill” once again instead of reading your essay.

I too did not read this essay. Why did I not read this essay even though I am a fan of RGV?

    >>>>P.S: (2). Well, I never said I am not an egocentric son of a … – RAMU
I guess this is for RGV. so I am skipping this point.

  147. @ Vaishaak saab,

I am answering the points where you quoted me.

    >>>But i noticed that you like ‘pampering’ a little, like everybody.
This is a poor understanding from you. Do you think RGV will ever pamper anyone with his nature?

    >>>Jaani had made big blunders like “YUVa’ style is taken from “Pulp fiction” and “Dalapati’s story is old and lifted from Mahabharatha.

Vaisaak bhai….my point was to indicate that even Manirathnam got inspired (copied, whatever you call) from other western movies. I said Pulp fiction and you said it is inspired from some Kurasawa movie and someone else said its was inspired from Mexican movie. These points make my point more stringer which indicate that even Manirathnam got inspired. Thank You for correcting me but instead you gave more clearer points to validate my point about inspiration (copy) Manirathnam got.

regarding Dalapathi, I still it is a boring movie even though it might be technically brilliant or artistically fantastic. In your previous comment, you wrote Manirathnam gave soul to Mahabharatha by making Dalapathi. This is way far too hype. Do you think mahabharatha has no soul if Dalapathi was not made?

I also felt “Iruvar” is a boring movie although it has great lyrics from vairamutthu, although it has great music from Rahaman and the movie is cinematically brilliant. but I could not sustain the boredom even on first day morning show (Let me emphasis you that I saw this movie in Natraj 70mm Secunderabad……ahahahahaha…..please dont get irritated by reading how I went to watch the movie). I liked Bandidt Queen which was made on Phoolan Devi rathar than Iruvar which was made on MGR and Kalaignar. I like action and violence.

    >>>My points about the films i mentioned was accurate and right to the point.
Vaishaak, I am again emphasising that I will never match up with your knowledge.

    >>>You are congratulating Jaani just because he defended you. Okay….
Do you think RGV will defend anyone?? you should know with your knowledge that he does not care for anyone.

  148. @ Vaidshaak,

    >>>and i am happy that i could entertain you by an argument with jaani where jaani played the hero and me played the villain.
No one is hero and no one is villain. there is only autodriver and Vaishaak. Relax Vaishaak bhaijaan.

    >>>Next time, when you are remaking ‘AAG’, please cast me in the role of GABBAR……Grrrrrrr……Kithne AAthmi the….?
If you are Gabbar, then please dont cut my hands Vaishaak, I will not be able to drive my auto. ab Thaakur auto kaisa chalaayegaa?…

Gabbar Vaishaak Singh: yeh haath muhje dhe dhe Jaani….

Ram Gopal Varma is in the city to promote his Diwali release ‘Naach’. Four songs from the movie were projected. All the songs were extremely sensual (bit erotic too) and highly technical. Later on Ram Gopal Varma had chitchat with scribes for half-an-hour. Here are the excerpts …

    5th November 2004

    What is ‘Naach’ all about?
It is about everybody’s aspirations. This film involves a lady choreographer and a struggling male actor. The struggling male actor is a practical guy who can do anything to get his work done. The female choreographer is a principled lady who sticks to her conviction.

The songs of Naach, which you projected on big screen just now, ooze eroticism. Why is it so?
Because I like eroticism! Every man/woman wants to act as per their basic instincts which fall under various categories called power, fear or sex. I follow my basic instincts!

Why do your portray extremities in every film you make?
If I don’t portray extremities, they fall under routine/run-of-the-mill stuff. I want my films to be different.

Rangeela film also dealt with Bollywood. How different is Naach from Rangeela?
If Rangeela portrayed lighter vein entertainment, Naach is an intense film.

Why do you expose your heroines?
Because I am a man (magadini). I like them that way.

Rangeela was your last universal film, which was liked by all sections of audiences. After that you started making films that cater to only a particular segment of people. Why is it so?
When I make a film, I do not think about the target audience. All I care about is if I liked that script or not. If I like it, I go ahead and make it. Rangeela was also made in such a method. It was just accidental that it became a universal film.

Can we expect a film with a Telugu star in your direction?
    No

Is Sarkar a remake of God Father?
Sarkar is not exactly a remake of God Father, but it is inspired by it. If God Father dealt with mafia families, Sarkar deals with political families.

You have invented a style of filmmaking and lot of people are following it. How do you feel about it?
I have not invented any style of filmmaking. I only copied from Hollywood flicks and old Hindi films. If any of my protégé became successful in this profession, it is only because of their own strength and merit.

Would Naach fulfill your desire of giving Anthra Mali a hit?
I cast her because she suits the characterizations in my film. I do not care what people think about it.

Why don’t you make a routine film, for a change?
I lost interest in making simple and routine (especially family type) movies long back. Simple things and simple issues bore me. Whatever I make, it should be larger than life.

Tell us about Darna Jaroori Hain?
Darna Jaroori Hain would have seven episodes. Each of these episodes would be directed by one director.

Would you put an end to horror films now after will continue making horror films?
I am not satisfied yet. I would make 4-5 horrors films in the future.

80% of the people don’t like the movies you produce these days. How is you production company ‘factory’ going to sustain it?
I am not worried whether the rickshaw puller in Nellore would like my films or not. Even if 80% of the people do not like my film, I would get profits through the money generated by 20% of the people watching it. Let me give you an example. If a film collects 5 crores, it would be a flop if the budget is 6 crores and it would be a hit if the budget is 4 crores. But our scribes and industry has the old habit of counting the openings and initials and declaring that film as a hit. Because of the same return on investment policy, my production house ‘Factory’ has become the number one production house in Mumbai.

Can we expect any direct Telugu film on your ‘Factory’ banner?
I lost touch with people in Hyderabad. I do not know any director/hero here. I don’t think I would make a direct Telugu film.

Why do you stick to only certain set of actors/technicians all the time?
The remunerations in film industry works like stock prices in stock market. If a hero/director gives a hit his remuneration goes up. If he gives a flop, it comes down. I always select the artists as per requirements of my films rather than going after saleable artists. Even during the preproduction stage of Shiva, the makers preferred big names like Mohan Babu and others in addition to Nagarjuna in that film. However, I preferred fresh or relatively new faces for other roles in Shiva, as being the director, I know who fits the bill.

During the making of Satya, you told that JD Chakri is the best actor in India. Then you changed your statement that Manoj Bajpai was the best actor in India. Now, you again claimed that Abhishek Bachchan is the best actor? Why do you change your statements so often?
I changed my words. At that time I felt JD was the best. Today I am feeling Abhishek is the best.

Veerappan was killed recently. Is the film ‘Lets Catch Veerappan’ is still on?
Yes. We changed the titled from ‘Lets Catch Veerappan’ to ‘Lets Kill Veerappan’. This film is based on a biography on Veerappan title ‘The Untold Story’ written by the Mysore-based journalist Sunaad Raghuram. This book is the most authentic book on Veerappan. And ‘Lets Kill Veerappan’ would be like a documentary by presenting facts/truths as they are.

What is the necessity to make a film on Veerappan since he is already dead?
Ramayanam happened centuries ago. But why are we using Ramayanam themes even today? I apply the same logic to Veerappan as well.

An oft-repeated question! Why you are in Mumbai and working there and why are you ignoring Telugu film industry?
My kind of sensibilities suit Mumbai very well. Let me elucidate an incident that happened after Shiva was released. ANR asked me to give a paper statement/advertising thanking Telugu people for making Shiva such a big hit. I refused to do so and told ANR that the people of Andhra should thank me instead, for entertaining them with Shiva. Do they encourage a bad film made by me? They liked Shiva, because it was a well-made film. It is all give and take deal.-RGV

  153. Another iview of The Megalanomaniacal RGV(2004)Ram Gopal Varma (”Ramu”) is in city now to speak about his upcoming three films – Mayam (Tussar Kapoor, Anthra Mali), Madhyahnapu Hatya (Chakri, Amani) and Marrichettu (Chakri & Sushmita). He arranged a press conference at ‘The Touch’ (an upscale restaurant owned by film star Nagarjuna) today evening at 7 pm.

Mayam: Mayam is about a timid guy who gets frustrated with what he is going through. He prays for God who appears one fine day, to give him the magical power of disappearing at will.

Madyahnapu Hatya: This film is about how a frustrated husband plots to kill his wife at noon and the consequences he faces aftermath.

Marrichettu: This film is a horror flick that deals with a Banyan tree in the backyard. This film is the dubbed version of Hindi flick – ‘Vastu Sastra’.

All the songs of Mayam and trailers of Madyahnapu Hatya and Marrichettu were shown to press. Ram Gopal Varma also had a chitchat with the press. Here are the excerpts …

    8th July 2004

Will you direct any Telugu straight film in future?
    No.

Why did you stop directing Telugu films?
My kind of sensibilities will appeal to very niche section of audiences in Telugu. I stopped making films for audiences. Now I am making films for myself. And my kind of films would not work for Telugu people. I am not capable of making a hit film in Telugu anymore. Checkout the Telugu films that are being made now! Even the Telugu film posters frighten me.

I should tell you one example about what Telugu filmmakers used to think of me. It was the time when Chiranjeevi gave three continuous blockbusters (Gang Leader, Rowdy Alludu and Gharana Mogudu). Then somebody gave a suggestion jocularly that I should direct Chiranjeevi so that he could get a miserable failure for a change. That was my USP in Telugu film industry at that time.

But it was you who made blockbusters like Shiva, Kshanakshanam and Gayam in Telugu?
That is right. When I made those films I was new. I had to prove my caliber. Hence I made those films with intensity. After making films like Satya and Company, I can’t make a film like Shiva.

It was Telugu film industry that made you a star director. And now you say you are not interested in directing Telugu films. Is it fair?
I do not owe anything to anybody. Shiva was a good film and that is why I got some fame. When I made bad films, people rejected me.

Tell us about your proposed film with Nagarjuna as hero?
We will be making a bilingual. And Nagarjuna would act in the Telugu version. I will be producing it. There is another person directing this film.

You seem to have smitten by ‘horror flick’ bug. You keep on making horror flicks again and again?
To tell you that truth, I got the story idea of making ‘Rathri’ film while I was doing my graduation in Siddardha Engineering College. I came to the film industry wanting to direct Rathri as my debut film. But Nagarjuna asked me to come up with another storyline. That is how ‘Shiva’ happened. Later on I wanted to show my capability to Telugu film industry by directing ‘Rathri’. And it flopped miserably (giggles).

You are more interested in producing these days. Will you direct in the future?
I will direct only those films that challenge the director in me.

Have you seen any Telugu films recently?
In the past 4-5 years, I have seen only Jayam and Idiot. Jayam has beautiful narrative. Idiot has terrific characterization.

You created a genre in filmmakers. Lots of people feel proud to be from Varma’s school?
(shrugs) I do not think they are making the kind of films I made. Probably they are following my attitude (tantrums) off the screen.

Will you direct a straight Telugu film or not?
You are the guys who driven me out of Telugu film industry. Now you are asking me to make films in Telugu. I do not even know that much of actors in Telugu now.

Why do you think Hindi remakes of Telugu films are failing?
When they remake, they ignore the soul and various other things that go into making the original version a hit. That’s why they fail. Checkout Subhalagnam! It is a small budget film made in a simple setup in Telugu original. But in Hindi, they erected a set worth 75 lakhs. The simplicity has simply disappeared.

You are more interested in tapping new talent in terms of directors?
I do not have any noble intentions of reserving a seat for me in heaven by encouraging new talent. I am an experienced filmmaker. There are certain guys who are good at directing. I know how things work if I use and guide them. That is how we get mutually benefited.

We heard that Sahara Group has given you 300 crores for joint venture?
Yeah! Please check that money out underneath my bed. (giggles).

What do you think about standards of filmmaking and technology in Telugu?
Compared to what Shiva has brought into Telugu film industry, there is not much progress in the past 14 years.

i have seen all ur films except MAST and i ve never intended to watch it.
i dont know what a good film is and what a bad film is
but i like all ur films and its plesure watching ur films
to be very frank with u i dont watch films made by others, its a truth sometimes at home i watch other films on TV which dont cost me anything

but my feeling is out of all ur films, i liked ur film NAACH very much and its the best movie made by u and its my very personal opinion.

but what i say is u have served a full raw bottle of VODKA (NAACH) without any spicy stuff and other plain liquids which are to be mixed with raw VODKA.

Had u served the VODKA (naach) with some sweet soft drink like sevenup which has to be mixed with vodka and had u served the same with some spicy stuff like chicken tikka, mutton kebab and some kurkure and lays for vegetarians ,(NAACH ) wud have been a superduper hit

my feeling is u can make NAACH with all the above spicy stuff again and it wud be a super hit

  157. RGV

indians cant take even the scotland liquor without mixing it with plain liquids and spicy stuff.

the spicy stuff like kurkure and lays attract even the liquor drinkers, the kids and the old people

and marwaris and gujratis love kurkure type stuff

the biggest advantage of luring a marwari is he brings his entire family to the theatre

    P.S

i am not against any marwaris or gujratis but i appreciate their spending power which feeds the kurkure sellers like karan johar(moron)

  158. @surap

boss my point is instead of collecting the 100 set of hollywood films u can collect the set of RGVS films and reserach on them

coz RGV is not a fool and he might have picked the best out of that 100 which suits the indian audience and he is the master in that so dont waste ur money to buy that 100 cds

if u take my advice u do some research on RGVS films and make a good story out of that and tell that story to RGV

who knows that INTENT might become a big ACCIDENT

    P.S

Take it easy my intention was not to demotivate u

    PS2:

    what does surap stand for

is it suryanarayana raju penmetsa r something like that

    Hi Ramu:

Please put the name of a very very small character’s name in Raktha Charitra as ‘Autojaani’ Let the character in the film be highly negligible and a loyal accomplice of Paritala (Vivek) or Suri (Surya). I think “autojaani” is very catchy name for a loyal accomplice OR you keep it as a Tribute to this blog and its enthusiastic blogger ‘Autojaani’ OR you do it just for the heck of it!!

    What say, RGV?

  163. @madeinandhra

No friend.. I am not into negative sense about your comment…

I didn’t spend even a single N.P to collect any of those movies… Man these are torrent days… just din in it…

About my name good guessing.. But its not that what did you guess…. Its just like madeinandhra..

Here my intention is not to research any one’s movies… and make a story out of it…

My intention is to get knowledge about cinema technique i.e how to convert a story into Cinema.. and it must be in our own way.. at-least in my perception..

  164. The saddest thing that is happening to the blog’s comments section is that some people are asking a question and in the next line, posting what they perceive would be Ram’s reply. Everyone’s gotten so accustomed to his sarcastic style of talking that they are answering their own questions by saying ‘yeah yeah I know how you’ll answer my query…. or …I know you’ll say you don’t care about what I think blah blah.. ..etc etc’. Which inherently means everyone’s scared of his roar hehe :).

Someone mentioned NAACH above. I have been waiting to see something written on that film for quite sometime now. But I guess we have to wait since most of the guys here are still not over ‘Shiva’!

  197. Ramu bhai,

You mentioned that you like to see Amitabh in movies like Deewar, Zanzeerand do not like to him in movies like Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Black, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham etc which are some kind of sensible movies to the respective directors.

My question to you is if you were not interested to see Big B in such family/emotional/sentimental/love story movies, then why did you cast him in “Nishabd”?

  198. @Pradeep Bhai

I saw “Raiders of Lost Ark” in early 90s when it was re-released in Sterling. I didnot see that movie when I was kid. First, I saw “Indiana Jones and Last Crusade” in Sangeeth 70mm in Late 80s and then got interested in Indiana Jones series at that time. So, that movie was later re-released and I did not want to miss that movie.

Also are you into “What would happen if” kind of movies. I mean the gadget kind of movies like Mr India. Or phone booth.

What about historical movies. Surely there is no greater epic than Mahabharata. Maniratnam adopted Karna-Duryodhana angle for Dalpati. Shyam Benegal directed Kalyug, which was again Pandava-Kaurava tussle translated to business wars. Maybe the entire mahabharat war tactics (Bhishma, Drona, Abhimanyu, etc) can be applied to tactics applied to mafia!

  235. Hi Ramu, I have someone very close to me in my family affected with Schizophrenia. We are a middle class family and very close to each other you can understand how can it affect our lives suddenly. After treatment for some months, he has become better with medication now, still one cannot say that it is completely cured due to nature of the disease itself.

He is very intellectual and started reading a lot of books to come over it and I can say now he is 80% cured. He is always a kind of a guy who looks like lost in thinking something out of the world and basically having a conflict with his conscience always questioning why is this like this? why the world is like this ? etc.,

When I started reading ur blog and comments, I started using lot of insights acquired from here to give new perspective of his thinking and helping him to find his own way of life. As I am trying this on him consciously, I can see a clear change in this thinking pattern and his confidence is sky high now and I am sure in few years to come, he will be a superstar for himself.

  276. Ramu,

A question on how you choose Music Directors –

You choose the actors for your film based on how good they suit the character (or how good can they act). But this may not be the base on how you choose a music director. There are numerous music directors who can provide good/better (or I would say ‘best’) music based on various scenarios you provide. And given a scenario to three different Music Directors, three of them can come up with three various compositions – How can you foresee upfront as to who would come up with the good one?

Not sure if its a valid question though!

“I think RGV will be divided into pre-Rakta Charitra and post-Rakta Charitra”.
By saying above line you are contradicting your previous statement ‘we live by accident and we die by intend’.

I have been in your blog since you started blogging. But I never saw you taking something very seriously until you started RC. You take up each project as it is and you forget it once it is done. At this point of time I could just say RC has a big impact on you and it affected you more than any other film you did previously. I am sure it is just an EFFECT of RC on you which is making you to say above line.

I remember you saying that ‘I can’t make better movie than ‘Satya’ in rest of my life’. Later you came up with ‘Company’, Sarkar Raj and now with RC.

The reason is you can’t get RC kinda scripts everyday and you can’t just make every movie like RC. When you try to do that then you join the rest of the directors who say this movie is like my baby I am going to craft it.

I like to see you making movies in your own style whichever idea/script comes across to you take up and enjoy it.

P.S: It is my opinion not suggestion.

  307. @a.film.by.sridhar

Sridhar bhai…..I saw Gaayam long ago and this one dialogue is still so fresh even now. I just cannot stop laughing whenever I think of this dialogue…

ans I cannot stop laughing NOT because the way Kota delivers the dialogue but because it is an honest and pure attempt to mock at politicians. Even till today, every newspaper and every news channel reporter says “the minister condemned the incident” (in english) and “manthri gaaru theevranga khandinchaaru” (in telugu). what kind of action they follow up on any major incidents everybody knows.

  308. I watched RGV ki Aag again yesterday and I never felt that its not really that bad, to receive brick bats and criticism from public.

I watched it for the second time ( the first and last time being on August 31, 2007, 10pm show at Prasads) I don’t understand why sometimes ( In fact most of the times, the second viewing gives a different experience- it can either be good or bad. There are chances that you’d love the movie for the first time and hate the very next and vice versa) I am guessing you have a theory or an explanation behind this one.

I feel, movie reviews, are very similar to an arrange marriage system. The bride and groom side guys will inquire about the job, salary, lifestyle, appearance and habits etc and that talk will last till the guy ties the nuptial knot. The whispers and murmurs and bitching would stop the very next moment after the marriage is over. So, even if there is a huge dip in his monthly salary, change in lifestyle or appearance, who cares!!!

Watching AAG for the second time, I felt its as normal as any other movie. I think most of us in life only “believe in that moment” rather than “living that moment”.

    Cheers
    Abhishek Naini

  309. Ramu bhai

In “Darna Zaroori Hai” movie, how did you shoot the scene where a little girl comes downstairs to drink water, sees a lady portrait, takes water in a glass, drops the glass, picks up the glass and then sees that the lady in the portrait “smiles” at this girl. This is all a single shot….

    How did you shoot this?

  310. @Fake autojaani

what is the meaning of “asshole”?

  311. @ Fake autojaani

what is the meaning of “ass hole”

  312. who is fake and who is real autojaani?

  313. @ Fake autojaani

“what is the meaning of “ass hole”

arre yaar……enough bhai….stop it….everybody know the meaning of ass hole which means donkey’s hole…..but I dont know why you said ass hole and why you are asking the meaning? is this is vulgar word?

I am tired of your comments….

On one side I am feeling proud that someone is using an autodriver’s ID to post his comments/thoughts. Many people on road address me as “ei auto” or just whistles at me to call me and some dont even respect me, especially the lady software engineers who travel to hitech city and here someone is using the same autodriver’s ID…..

On the other hand getting irritated seeing your comments ..and you are spoiling others interest too….stop it bhai….enough…there is a limit to everything (except RGV who is Off Limits).

  314. fake autojaani is really concerned about names. Whats there in the names mate!! RGV never cares about names, he won’t answer the questions based on who wrote the comment. It’s the content in the comment that makes RGV respond to them.

since RGV mentioned my name couple of times, I can understand the visitors curiosity and keenness on wanting to know who this autojaani is and making some naughty comments.. so from here on I’m giving green signal to all. Who ever wants to use my id, feel free to do that.. I don’t hold any patent rights on my user id.. I don’t give a rats aess on what you write..

My name should not be made prominent; it is my ideas that I want to see realized. The disciples of all the prophets have always inextricably mixed up the ideas of the Master with the person, and at last killed the ideas for the person. The disciples of Sri Ramakrishna must guard against doing the same thing. Work for the idea, not the person.
    ~Vivekananda

Every work should be made thorough. … You need not insist upon preaching Sri Ramakrishna. Propagate his ideas first, though I know the world always wants the Person first, then the Idea.
    ~Vivekananda

    Is it possible….

  335. vijay kumar reddy says:

What will you do if none reads your blog? You are using this blog as curtain raiser and as a free advertisement agency to your films.

  336. Dear Ramu, this is my first post to you. You are being my personal choice of film directors. I like you as both film director and as an Individual. Some part of me thinks that you are creating all these hype just for a publicity, I still think that you love people, atleast your parents, and friends. You got to love someone at some point of life. Apart from this, I strogly want to see you on hollywood stage, do you plan anything on those lines. Your way of takings are not less than any hollywood films(some, I am not comparing with high technicals from Hollywood). I am going to conclude here with a one sentence, I like your comments like “Audince vedhavalu kaadhu, they know what they like, you don’t have to preach them” its awesome. I’ll be posting more based on your response to my first post.

  337. Most people will believe in anything to justify their existence. You believe in individualism, objectivism, rationalism etc. theories, what ever you may want to call them. Only difference is Rand’s (and many more before her in the objectivist vein) theories is that, individuals begin to take themselves rather seriously without much regard for anything else. So in essence they are misguided nihilists who believe only in themselves, and nihilists cannot create art, unless you perceive nihilism as art. And I think you have a rather poor understanding of Nietzsche. Your blog portrays him as some super selfish individualistic man with disregard for everything, which he was not!
    Later dude.

  338. vamsi_whothehell says:

Sir, I am a great fan of yours. I read your phil.over media strip. But I believe media is doing their job which means stripping others to entertain others..that is what the meaning of media I believe. In my opinion celebrities are like soldiers. They have no personal life..they meant to be by the people for the people. coz they messed up with people’s emotions..(good or bad)..once you are decided to be a celebrity ..just that you have decide not to have any personal life..decided to dedicate everything to people…the more stronger celebrity you are …..the more stronger soldier you are going to be…take from Michael Jackson (god for new gen) and till chidatala apparao….they are supposed to be a soldier……and the great MJ has died in just 50’s just because of media doing their job I believe… it is all that what media wanted to bring is what matters to people …….I know you will ignore this lengthy message..I don’t mind the answer appears in the blog or not..as long as it touches your soul..(not heart)……

  339. Why you afraid to tell truths ?

  340. I got answer you have dare enough to tell lies…….

  341. Have you ever thought of making Hollywood film, if not then why not?

  342. How did you get access to Fountain Head book in those days (or) How did you know that such book existed?
